II                 Cause (Freedom)
                       A. The Boston Massacre
                             1. Frightened British troops fired blindly into a crowd and killed five.
                             2. America was furious - -they nicknamed the event the “Boston Massacre”
                       B. The Boston Tea Party
                             1. Townshend Act, Britain taxed goods imported to America
                                 a. America stopped buying British goods
                                 b. 1770 parliament withdrew all townshend acts except the one on tea
                             2. Merchants smuggled tea from the netherlands
                                 a. Smuggling hurt the British tea company and asked the parliament for help.
3. Samuel Adams led the Tea Act and raided British tea ships (dressed as Mohawk Indians) and dumped the tea overboard.
                    C.The Intolerable Acts
1.One act closed the Boston Harbor until America paid for the lost tea and learned to respect the British
                            2.Act made governor of Massachusetts a dictator
                            3.Convention of delegates of colonists to resist acts. Called the Continental Congress.

III               Effect (Freedom and Taxes)
                       A. Because of the British taxes, Americans started a revolution.
                               1. Caused Revolutionary War
                               2. Many battles - Lexington and concord, and the battle of Bunker Hill.
                       B. Lexington and Concord, and the battle of Bunker Hill
                               1. 240 dead in Lexington and Concord
                               2. Around 1000 dead in the battle of Bunker Hill
                               3. Because Paul Revere warned them, the local townspeople were ready to fight Brits.
                      C. The battle of Bunker Hill.
                              1. On June 17, 1775 Brits attacked Americans on Breed’s Hill.
                              2. Led by George Washington.
                              3. Bloodiest battle of the entire war.
                              4. “Don’t fire until you see the whites of their eyes!” was the motto that saved ammo.

IV              Outcome (Freedom and Desire)
                      A. America won the Revolutionary war in 1783.
                              1. They were no longer controlled by Great Britain.
                              2. America was completely free and had no taxes or a mother country.
                     B. Democracy.
                              1. Since America had won the war, they were no longer a monarchy.
                              2. America’s citizens could elect a president and got say in the countries decisions.

V                Conclusion (Freedom)
                    After being taxed by Great Britain, America rebelled, started war, and won the war. All for just one thing: freedom.
